Junior golf at the Hamilton Golf Club takes place all year round; however the program is effectively divided into two parts.
In Terms 1 and 4 Junior boys takes place on a Tuesday from 4pm -6pm. The boys are grouped according to age/ability wherever possible and are well supervised by the club coaches and club volunteers. While the Tuesday sessions are mainly about coaching and skill improvement there are always opportunities for a few holes out on the course.
Beginners Clinics run for 6 weeks during terms 1 and 4 for 1 hour each week. These are run by one of the club professionals and are an ideal way for young players to get into the game. At the end of the 6th week the boys can then join with the other juniors for the remainder of the term.
In Terms 2 and 3 Junior Golf takes place on Sunday mornings- usually from 9am. Sunday morning golf allows juniors with handicaps the opportunity to play 18 holes. A program is put out for each term and so competitions are usually organised.
There is opportunity for 9 hole players to play on Sunday mornings, however, they must be accompanied by a parent or adult. The club/Junior Convenors take no responsibility for unsupervised 9 hole players.
Golf for Junior Girls takes place all year round on a Wednesday afternoon. Girls with handicaps are encouraged to play in the Sunday morning competitions.
Other opportunities for Junior play within the club program include:
· Pennant Play ( February to June)
· 18 Hole Tournament (July School Holidays)
· Schoolboy/Girl Club Championships (September School Holidays)
· Generation Game
· Family Ambrose
Juniors are expected to abide by the Rules and Dress Standards of the Club. The club operates a “Green Card” system whereby Juniors earn the right to play unsupervised on the course. Generally juniors with 18 hole handicaps are issued with a Green Card which must be displayed on their bag at all times. Other Juniors who are in the process of getting their handicap and who are known to the club Manager or the Junior Convenors may also be issued with a Green Card.
